Picking a name for your baby is an incredible reponsibility. There are SO many choices in baby names! There are plenty of books out there that will help you with the name-game.
Perhaps you already have a few in mind. Maybe there is that one that you've had in your head for years.
Plenty of parents-to-be find that there's a lot of work involved in narrowing it down. Many parents are at odds with each other when it comes to picking one! Mommy might have a name that she loves, but daddy doesn't seem so keen on it!
Tips to help you find that perfect name:
- What are you looking for? Traditional? Modern? Easy to spell? Different?
- You may consider naming your child after someone who is near and dear to you. Just make sure that person will be near and dear to you for life!
- Make sure your choice will grow with your child. What may sound cute as a baby may not be so mature when the child grows into an adult.
- Make sure the name goes well with the surname. Like the neighbour from the popluar sitcom "Married With Children" - 'Marcy Darcy' just seemed a little comical!
- Look at the initials when the first, middle, and last names are shortened. Make sure it doesn't spell something unattractive. For example, the initials from "Bob Umberto Monroe" doesn't necessarily spell something pleasant! (go ahead - make the initials to see what it spells!)
- Try not to pick a name that is too odd or trendy that will sound awful in a few years.
