Baby Nursery -
The Basics

nursery

The baby nursery is one of the first things you want to get strated on as soon as you find out that you are pregnant (especially if this is your first baby). Which room will you choose? What colour should you paint it? What will be the theme? To create a soothing, comfortable baby nursery, here is a list of some of the things you will need:

Chair With A Footstool

This will be both for mommy and baby! When you get up multiple times per night to feed your newborn, you'll need a place to nurse or feed. Invest in a good, comfortable chair that has a soothing rocking motion that will put your baby at ease. Most likely, it will put you to sleep too!

CD Player/White Noise & Baby Music CD

Classical music should help to soothe your baby. If he or she is colicky, try a white noise CD that includes noise that would sound like a vacuum cleaner, stove fan, or running tap water. These types of noises seem to calm a baby down by mimicking the sound of the mother's womb.

Crib

This will most likely be the most expensive piece in the room - aside from the dresser. To save some money, purchase a crib that turns into a twin/double bed when your baby gets older. This will save you some cash when you require a bigger bed to house your bigger baby! Just make sure it is away from lamps, cords, or any other hazards.

If you use a hand-me-down crib, make sure the paint is not lead-based and is in good condition (and not too old!).

Mobile

A mobile is a staple for the baby's crib. It will soothe and entertain your baby when she's cozy in her crib. Choose a mobile that goes with the theme of the baby nursery.

Change Table

Make sure your change table is able to keep your baby from falling off. For added convenience, choose a change table that provides for diaper and wipes storage for easy access when changing your baby's bottom in the middle of the night.

Diaper Pail

This is optional. A diaper pail will store stinky diapers and prevent the odours from escaping.

Baby Monitor

Once your baby is sleeping in her own room, you'll want to have a monitor to listen in on her. There are high quality audio monitors out there that can be used quite far away. There are also video monitors out there so you can watch your baby while she hangs out on her own.

The list of baby nursery items is virtually endless. Just keep it simple and comfortable. After all, it is comfort that you want above all!
