The list of baby products seems endless. When you find out that there is a new addition to the family coming soon, you'll want to get all the things you'll need to get set up for the special arrival! There are literally hundreds of items out there, but which ones will you really need?

Of course, there are certain items that are an absolute must. Start off with a crib, infant car seat and stroller - these should definitely make your baby product checklist. There are also many items out there that simply make mommy and daddy's life easier.

Baby Items You'll Need Right After Birth

Certain baby products will be required right away. These include:

Diapers and Diaper Accessories
Besides diapers, you'll also need wipes, vaseline, penaten (for rashes) and a change pad. Diaper Bag
This can come in many forms, including a back-pack which many mothers (including myself!) find the most convenient to lug around. Just make sure it is able to hold a lot of items, such as all the above-mentioned items, change of clothes and food.

Bath Items
This includes a bathtub, baby soap (try to stick with the organic stuff), body lotion, towels and wash cloths and a bath thermometer.

Grooming Items
This includes a soft-bristle brush and baby nail clippers or scissors.

Medical Items
This includes a thermometer, nasal aspirator, pacifiers, medication for pain/fever (such as baby advil or infant tylenol), gripe water or Ovol for gas pains, saline to clear nasal congestion, baby vick's (to be applied only to a cloth and put on baby's chest - do not apply vick's directly on the baby's skin) and a warm-air humidifier.

Clothing
Pick up a few onesies, sleepers, socks, hats, gloves (to prevent scratching), bibs, and gentle laundry detergent. Bedding
This includes blankets, mattress cover and fitted crib sheets.

Bottle Feeding supplies

Breast Feeding supplies
This includes nursing pads, nipple cream, nursing pillow, storage bags and a breast pump (manual or electric).

Additional Convenient Baby Items

A great item to have is a bouncy chair, particularly one that has a vibrating feature. This chair can calm even colicky kids who need motion and bouncing to keep them stable and comfortable. If your baby has a cold, this is a good place for her to sleep as the chair will keep her elevated as well as comfortable. It's also an easy place to put her when you have your hands full!

Another good multi-tasking baby product is an all-in-one playpen. These playpens serve as a crib, change table and diaper organizer. What's more, these can be folded into a nice compact package for easy storage and travel!

Shopping for your baby doesn't have to be stressful if you make a list ahead of time of things you need. The best advice I can give is to talk to an experienced mom who knows what will be used, and what will be a waste of money.
