A baby shower is a momentous occasion. It marks the entrance of a new baby into this world. However, baby showers can be a lot of work. Hopefully, you're baby shower will be organized by someone other than yourself - like a best friend or your mom. By following a few simple tips, this day can be extra special without all the hassle.
Prepare Your Invitation List
You need to know how big your party is going to be, and how many people you would like to attend. Ensure that all the people that you would like to be invited have been invited. If someone else is throwing this party for you, give them a full list of names, addresses and phone numbers to make the host’s life easier.
Set The Date
When setting the date of the party, make sure the people that you most want to be there - like your mom and best friend - will be able to attend. Take into consideration those that may have to travel a long distance to be there.
Figure Out The Venue
Determine what the best place is to have the party. Take into consideration the amount of people, and the food that you would like to have served.
Invitations
Get your
invitations
for the baby shower out there at least a month before the shower date to give people enough time to receive them and RSVP. These can either be store-bought (where all you do is fill in the blanks), or customized. There are TONS of sites out there offering reasonable prices on baby shower invitations. Food
When you are making your food list, make sure that you account for anyone that may have any food allergies or vegetarian preferences.
Games
Games are a great way to keep everyone entertained, as well as getting people that don't know each other to interact and mingle. Here are a few ideas to get the party started:
Make Mommy's Baby
Divide the women into groups of 3 or 4 per team. Get them to cut things out of a magazine that represent anything about baby. They will then have to put together a picture of what they think your baby will look like. The mother-to-be (you!) will have to pick the winning team, which will get a prize. Materials for this game include:
baby magazines,
scissors, paper and glue/tape.
Guess The Size Of Mommy's Belly
Every woman at the party will pull on yarn or ribbon to the length that they believe is the circumference of your pregnant belly. After everyone cuts their ribbon, compare the results to Mommy's belly to see who comes the closest. Obviously, the winner gets a prize! This is a classic baby shower game. Materials include: string or ribbon, and scissors.
Guess The Baby Food
Pour different baby foods into glass jars. The object of the game is to guess what kind of baby food is in each jar. Materials include:
baby food,
paper and pens.
Diaper The Doll
Divide the women into 4 groups. Have the guests put diapers on dolls, then make them put on onesies and sleepers on them too! The first one to do this successfully wins a prize! Materials include: dolls,
diapers,
clothing for baby.
Bottle Sucking
Split the guests into two teams. Pick one volunteer for each team. Have a baby bottle full of juice handy. The object of the game is to see who can consume the contents of the baby bottle the fastest! Materials include:
baby bottles
and juice.
Baby Scrambler
Choose about 25 baby-related items and scramble the spelling. Have the guests unscramble the words. The team who gets the most right in 10 minutes wins a prize!
Now that you have some basic ideas, you are set. Don't forget - the important thing is to have fun with your girls before your precious little one arrives!
