Mommy
This week, your uterus is about 2.5 inches above your navel.
"Braxton Hicks" may be occurring around now. These are contractions that feel like painless tightening and relaxing of the uterus. These may happen at irregular intervals, and are your body's way of practicing for
labor
.
You should be consuming around 300
extra calories
per day. You're not doubling up or "eating for two", although you should be eating a little more (good calories) than prior to pregnancy!
You may also be experiencing some form of pregnancy insomnia - a full night's rest may not be a regular occurrence anymore!
The baby's kicks are becoming more and more prominent, and you may or may not be enjoying that! Sometimes it can actually hurt, or wake you from your sleep!
Baby
Your little bundle of joy now weighs around 2 full pounds and is around 9 inches long from crown to rump!
The baby's eyes start to open, and brain wave activity starts for the visual and auditory systems.
Lung growth is active, with a substance called "surfactant" being secreted to cover the inner lining of the air sacs to allow the lungs to expand normally while breathing.
Keep following each week on your
pregnancy calendar
to discover how much more will be happening with your growing belly - and baby!
