Mommy
There are only 4 weeks to go on your pregnancy calendar!
At this point, average
weight gain
is between 25-30 pounds.
You will be visiting your health care provider once a week now. You will be tested for
Group B Strep
(short for streptococcus), which is a type of bacteria that causes illness in newborn babies, pregnant women, the elderly, and adults with other illnesses. It is a bacteria that may be present in the pregnant mother, and can be passed on to the newborn baby.
If a woman is tested positive for this bacteria, she will be given antibiotics through an IV during labor. Antibiotics will kill some of the bacteria that are dangerous to the baby during birth. The antibiotics can't be taken before
labor
because the bacteria can grow back quickly.
Pregnant women who test positive during pregnancy should be given antibiotics during labor or when their water breaks.
Baby
Your baby is about 6 pounds now at this point on the
pregnancy calendar
!
The baby may "drop" (descend into the birth canal) any time now.
Most of the systems (circulatory, skeletal, respiratory, etc) are ready. However, the digestive system is something that will continue to develop after the baby is born.
