Mommy
You may be finding that at this point on your
pregnancy calendar
, your breasts may start leaking! Your breasts are producing
breast milk
. In particular, colostrum is being produced, which is a yellowish liquid that starts before breast milk. It is full of antibodies that protect your baby.
Nursing pads may help. These can be inserted into your bra cups to prevent leakage of milk onto your shirt!
Some pregnant women experience false
labor contractions
in these pregnancy stages that are painful, but irregular. These can be felt in a variety of areas on your body, including your lower abdomen, pelvis and back.
If these were true labor contractions, they would start at the top of your uterus, and radiate throughout the rest of the uterus, around to your lower back, and into your pelvis. Some women say they feel like terrible menstrual cramps, while others claim it feels like intense abdominal and pelvic pressure.
Baby
Your baby is gaining about an ounce per day at this point on the pregnancy calendar.
He or she is about 7 pounds now, and is around 20 inches long.
The intestines are accumulating meconium (first bowel movement). Your baby's stool should look like black tar the first couple of days. This is the meconium that the body is getting rid of.
Your baby is producing "surfactant" that will help him or her take the first breaths. This will prevent the air sacs in the lungs from sticking together once breathing starts.
