Following the pregnancy calendar , you are 8 weeks pregnant at this point, but conception actually occurred approximately 6 weeks ago.

Your waistline may start to expand at this point - after all, your uterus is about the size of an orange already! If this is your first pregnancy, you may not be showing yet. However, if this is a subsequent pregnancy for you, you may have a bit of a pouch!

If you haven't already, now would be a good time to schedule your first prenatal appointment. Your first ultrasound will probably be around the 12 week point , so you want to have an appointment in before that in order to have a chance to schedule the ultrasound.

Now would also be a good time to decide whether you'd like to go the medical route and have your pregnancy and delivery monitored by an obstetrician, or a doula or mid-wife. There is great debate on which is better. At the end of the day, every individual woman is different, and the choice will depend on the unique individual.

If you are experiencing acne, don't fret - it's totally normal, and will go away. Don't be surprised if it doesn't disappear until just after labour & delivery !

Baby

Your baby is actually 6 weeks old. He or she is about 8 - 11 mm from crown to rump!

It is at this point that your baby's sex will be determined - either testes or ovaries will develop from the gonads.

You may actually be able to catch a heartbeat on an ultrasound!

Prior to this week on the pregnancy calendar, only arms and legs had started to form. Now elbows, fingers, and feet start to form! Teeth have even started developing under the gums!
