Mommy
On week 33 of your
pregnancy daily calendar
, you'll probably be finding that you are
gaining
approximately one pound per week.
Swollen hands and feet are not the most pleasant side-effects, but most pregnant women experience this! This is normal, but if you start seeing spots or get really dizzy, or if you experience abdominal pain, nausea, or rapid swelling, call your doctor. This could be a sign of
preeclampsia
, which is a serious complication in pregnancy. This is a rapidly progressive condition that is accompanied by very high blood pressure and protein in the urine. It usually occurs after 20 weeks, but can happen before this point.
Preeclampsia
affects about 5%-8% of all pregnancies.
Try to keep up with the omega-3 fatty acids (or DHA). This is critical for the baby's brain and vision development. Studies suggest that almost all of your baby's accumulation of DHA occurs during the
last trimester
. Try to take a supplement. If you get your omega-3's from fish, make sure that particular fish is not high in mercury. See the section on
health and safety tips
for pregnancy which outlines the safe vs. unsafe fish to consume. Scroll down to the section entitled "Start Eating Healthy".
DHA can also help to prevent early labor, and possibly even
postpartum depression
! Actually, even consuming DHA after the birth can help off-set depression.
Baby
Your baby is gaining about half a pound per week, and may be about 20 inches long from head to toe.
The fetal immune system is being developed as antibodies are being passed from you to your baby.
The baby's head size is increasing due to rapid brain growth at this stage.
The increase in fat accumulation under the skin means that the skin now has a pink pigment!
