Week 18 of your pregnancy week by week guide is actually 16 weeks after conception.
Mommy
Is your back aching? This is very common starting around now, since your center of gravity is shifting. Your uterus is about the size of a cantaloupe by now, so your lower back is being pulled forward and your abdomen is being pushed out.
You may be experiencing some heart-burn, too. Oh, the joys of pregnancy! This can actually last throughout the duration of your pregnancy. To counter (or prevent) this, try eating slowly and chew thoroughly. Eat smaller, more frequent meals, and try to stay upright for a while after eating. Staying away from spicy food would help too!
On top of all this, dizziness and light-headedness may also be ailing you. Sometimes this is caused by low blood pressure due to a change in position. This may happen frequently since your cardiovascular system doesn't react as quickly as it did prior to pregnancy.
You may be scheduled for another
ultrasound
some time between now and
20 weeks
to verify fetal age, or just to make sure everything is progressing properly. You could probably determine the baby's sex at this pregnancy stage.
Baby
Your baby should be approximately 5.5 inches long and weigh about 5 ounces!
Yawning and hiccupping are being learned, which you may actually feel!
Fingerprints are being developed around this week.
If it's a boy, the prostate gland is starting to develop.
